Cocktail Anatomy : Margarita Bonita by Dr. Dean

cool dad margarita

This drink is brought to you by: Dr. Dean – MD (Master Drinkologist) – my very own Real Life Cool Dad ™.

It’s summer …. that means Margarita!!

When it comes to making a good cocktail, it’s all about the ingredients. It’s no different than making good food. No mixes. No fake ingredients. The real stuff. Pure. Simple.

You might be wondering, why all the fuss? Why not just buy your favorite margarita mix, add your favorite tequila and be done with it? It’s not about speed. It’s not about the quick hit buzz. It’s a celebration, thoughtful preparation, appreciation & anticipation. It’s time and fellowship with your close friends and loved ones while you enjoy the perfect summer drink. I’ll make it – on the rocks with salt.

2 shots tequila – silver: Jose Cuervo Especial
1 shot freshly squeezed lime juice
1 shot Cointreau
1 heaping tablespoon of organic agave nectar (acting as simple syrup)

In no particular order, pour the ingredients into an ice filled shaker and shake until your hand is so cold that it’s gone numb; at least a full 30 seconds. Pour over ice in a salt-rimmed glass. Accompany the drink with your favorite chips and salsa.

What makes this drink so good is the freshly squeezed lime juice and the Cointreau. You can cut corners here or there, use store bought juice and a low grade triple-sec, and you’ll get a very average drink suitable for those neighbors whom you want to leave the party early. But if you want the real deal, follow the doctor’s orders and make the Margarita Bonita.

Enjoy the journey.
